Mr Christopher Karaiye is the Principal of Morgens Lawyers. He graduated from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) in the years 2004, 2005 and 2010 and attained degrees in Bachelor of Economics (BEc), Bachelor of Business & Management (Honours), economics major (BEc(Hons)) and Bachelor of Laws (with honours) (LLB(Hons)) respectively. On 26th November 2010, he was admitted to the bar to practice as a lawyer at the National Court and Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea.
Mr Karaiye worked as an Economist with the PNG Treasury Department, lecturer/tutor in economics, banking & finance and law at UPNG and the Divine Word University. He also worked as a commercial and litigation lawyer with Paul Paraka Lawyers, Divine Word University and Warner Shand Lawyers.
Mr Karaiye has held various leadership roles and has wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in management. He also has experience in project management. He specialises in commercial law, especially in the areas of climate change law, banking & finance law, company law, mergers & acquisitions, debt recovery, corporate finance law, public finance law and legislative drafting.
Mr Karaiye authored and published a law textbook entitled Administrative Law and Judicial Review in Papua New Guinea in June 2019. The book is being adopted as an academic textbook by the Divine Word University for its Masters in Public Administration program and the University of Papua New Guinea for its Bachelor of Law program. It is also being used by the judges, lawyers, public officers, law students, Legal Training Institute and PNG University of Technology.
Mr. Karaiye also contributed (co-authored) a chapter on the legal system of Papua New Guinea in a book entitled Legal Systems of the Pacific: Introducing Sixteen Gems that was edited by Emeritus Professor Jennifer Corrin (University of Queensland, Australia) and Emeritus Professor Tony Angelo (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand) and published in 2021 by Intersentia Publishing, Cambridge, United Kingdom. He also presented various papers at International Conferences.
